Oklahoma City Memorial

June 2, 2009

Oklahoma City was beautiful!! I absolutely loved Bricktown. This area part of downtown that the roads are made of brick and there are numerous restaurants and a canal that you can take a water taxi to various places.

Well while we were in Oklahoma we took some time to visit the Oklahoma City National Memorial. This memorial was breathtaking, just beautiful. They built the memorial in hopes to provide comfort, hope and serenity to those affect from the bombing of the Federal Building in 1995. There was a quote in the museum that has stuck with me ever since I read it, it was talking about the person leaving this memorial feeling a better person because of what they had experienced and seen that day. And I agree with this, the memorial and museum was very moving.

The bombing happened in April 1995, at 9:02 A.M. There are two main gates of this memorial one that is labeled, 9:01 and one that is labeled 9:03. 9:02 is the tranquil water middle between the two gates. _mg_4412-copyWhere the building stood there is a grassy area with chairs. There are exactly 9 rows of chairs for each row in the Federal building. The chairs are laid out according to the area the person was on during the bombing.

I have included some pictures from my trip, if you are ever in the area I highly recommend at least taking a few minutes to stop and experience this.

Serena: These pictures are amazing! I grew up in the Oklahoma City area and you did an amazing job capturing the beauty of this memorial! I now live in Fort Walton Beach, FL with my husband who is stationed at Hurlburt Field. I just wanted to say thank you for posting these beautiful pictures! They are stunning!
